Our first castle on the Loire Valley trip (I know I've been kind of posting these backwards!) was in the ville of Loches. We spent the whole day here wandering in and out of the ruins, the castle residence, and the town itself to do a little bit of shopping. This castle wasn't necessarily as picturesque as some of the others, but Diane and I both agreed that this was probably our favorite chateau. There was just something about it that drew us to it. The tour book said it like it was... that it was a hidden treasure, and most tourists didn't bother with it. So, it wasn't crowded and it was very relaxing!
