Full Moon

Using my 300 mm zoom lens and tripod, I captured this image of a full moon just tonight. It was so bright and beautiful, and I was curious to see what I could do. Not too bad, I suppose. I don't really know much about our moon, but I think it's interesting how you can see what looks like the south pole of the sphere with longitudinal lines moving up giving this two dimensional image the appearance that it is, indeed, round. You know, kind of looks like an orange or a melon...or a basketball! Or is it a sunspot or something reflecting off the surface of the moon??
